#capoeiraathens
Capoeira is a unique Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, dance, acrobatics, music and physical exercise. It developed in the 17th century as a means of resistance by African slaves in Portuguese colonial Brazil, and in 2014 was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Today it is practiced in 27 states of Brazil and in more than 160 countries worldwide. It is characterized by the rhythmic "game" (jogo) inside a circle (roda) with live music from traditional instruments, where players exchange question-and-answer movements, combining dynamic kicks, sweeps, and acrobatic floor figures. Salvador, the capital of the state of Bahia in central Brazil, was the center of Capoeira's development, and among its most important Mestres (masters) are Mestre Bimba and Mestre Pastinha.
Jacobina Arte

The Jacobina Arte group was founded in 2001 by Marcos Paulo Almeida Brandão, known in Capoeira as Mestre Pitbull from Bahia, Brazil. It was named in honor of his hometown, the city of Jacobina, and is an international Capoeira group with schools in Brazil, France, Austria, Greece, Croatia and Turkey. The Athens branch was established in spring 2009, and since 2010 has been taught by Contra Mestre Falcão and his students, under the supervision and guidance of Contra Mestre Gavião and Mestre Pitbull.

Mestre Pitbull
Marcos Paulo Almeida Brandão, known in Capoeira as Mestre Pitbull, was born in 1971 in Jacobina, Bahia, and began his Capoeira journey at the age of 9. After five years of training with Mestre Lourival in his hometown, he moved to Salvador, considered the "Mother of Capoeira", to deepen his knowledge. In Salvador, he trained with Mestre Aranha before returning to Jacobina to develop his own work. At the age of 28, he went to Europe, bringing the art of Capoeira with him. In 2001, he founded the group "Jacobina Arte", in honor of his hometown, to spread Brazilian culture around the world. Mestre Pitbull held seminars in many places, contributing to the preservation and development of the Group. In 2004, he received the Mestre de Capoeira cord from Mestre Carlinhos. He was honored with an honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) on September 18, 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, awarded by the Febraica School and the Order of Chaplains of Brazil (OCB) in recognition of his exceptional contribution to Capoeira.
